A new friendship and a shared joy for children brought together Rugged Idea designers, Ali Moore and Renée Gallahan. They joined creative forces to meet the need for a practical and stylish blanket with many functions in one; they wanted a weatherproof blanket that could provide protection from wind and rain, attach to a frontpack carrier, sling or stroller, and also be used as a changing pad, picnic blanket, and more!

Ali and Renée are passionate about children getting to be children – jumping in leaves, splashing in puddles, building sandcastles on the beach. They believe children should experience their world with all their senses, in all seasons; and that while embarking on outdoor excursions they should be warmed and shielded appropriately.

The Rugged Idea blanket collection allows for just that. Three sizes of vibrant weatherproof blankets provide a shield form unexpected wind and rain, a barrier from damp grass and sandy beaches and protection while changing babies in those not-so-clean places. Handcrafted from quilted layers of fleece and weather resistant nylon, edged in grosgrain ribbon and ricrac, the blankets are released in limited edition color combinations.

Rugged Idea is based in Redmond, Washington with a second branch in New York City.
